TVersity Errors on Xbox 360

You may have applied a recent update to your Xbox, come to stream a movie and your 360 throws it’s toys out the pram, showing an error message.

The error may be the exact one that I have experienced:

Unplayable Content

Can’t play this contet because it may not be supported. For more info, go to www.xbox.com/support

Status code: 69-04-80070057

There is only one way to fix this at the moment, encode all your movies and files to a format supported by the Xbox 360 itself, so far these are WMV, MP4 and some MPEG files.

Stick with the lads at TVersity, I’m confident they will have this rectified soon.

Update: There is a new version of TVersity out, download it from here. I have downloaded but haven’t had the chance to see if it works yet.

Update No.2: The update has worked for me, make sure you have a codec pack like CCCP Codec Pack or KazaaLite Codec Pack and make sure that on your “Transcoder” option inside the GUI, Use DirectShow for Windows Media Encoding is ticked.

Problem with using the transcoder is that it uses the DirectShow platform to decode. Essentially, if you cannot play the video in Windows Media Player, you won't be able to transcode it using TVersity
  • Hank,

I found that when the latest version was released, my streaming corrected itself. The new version (which I downloaded on Monday) comes with a codec install needed for your streaming, so that may help too.

If it doesnt work, you havent lost anything, I just think that the old TVersity installs were put back by the Xbox dashboard update.

    Hey Matt,

I've just been reading your blog. I have the same problem as you do here. Doesn't it defeat the purpose to convert your collection to one of the xbox supported formats? I think the whole point of TVersity is to be able to play a format not supported by the xbox and encode it on the fly... if you're going to convert it to an xbox supported format, you can just use WMP11 to share your media. Unfortunately I think this error comes up because of incompatibilities within the installed codecs. I haven't found the right set of codecs to play all my video files yet. What version of TVersity are you using now? I'm hesitant to upgrade, as I've heard horror stories of making a working system into a non-functional one. Hank
