I agree, I wrote up a list of the ones I used on this site, hoping it would inspire people to look beyond the usual Askimet etc.

Every blog has a plugins article, and they’re always the same plugins we’re all already using anyway.
I hadn’t heard of Tiger Admin or Slimstat before, and I’m going to give them a try.
