Exciting Times

Things have been moving quickly this week, with Katie and I keeping ourselves busy both inside and outside of work.

This weekend we took the opportunity to head out on a miserable Saturday to get Christmas presents for Katie’s parents, managing to head into a very busy Argos to get her Dad an Xbox 360, a present bought for him by Katie’s mother.

That evening we popped over to them to drop the presents off and we stayed for a couple of drinks, taking in the X Factor final and the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final. I have to say, I’m not a massive fan of the reality shows but having watched a duet between the winner of X Factor and Beyonce and witnessing my first ever Argentinean Tango, I am surprised to say, I could watch them if they were that good.

My Sunday morning was yet another football day for me, we managed to lose to a very poor side, but I took comfort in the fact we only had ten players.

Katie received some good news, her checks and references passed with flying colours and she starts her new job on Wednesday, so it was a cause for celebration in our household this evening.

I am pushing on with my writing efforts, today was a good day for me, having two articles published. One of MakeUseOf.com and one on LostInTechnology.com, with it looking like one might hit the Digg front page.

With only 8 days left at work, I’m counting down the days until Christmas.

The Future’s….Insurance

It’s been a long old week but it’s been a productive one.

Throughout the whole of this week I have been slaving away at work, bringing in money for other people. I have been adding new products and web pages to the company website, sorting out staff issues and generally just getting through the day as fast as I can.

Katie has been working hard filling in where she can whilst she was hearing back from a potential job interview. She did some cleaning at a Jewish nursing home, worked as a dinner lady and currently is employed by one of the UK’s largest Internet and TV provider. Coming home from work yesterday, she received a call from people where she had her last interview. They said that she had performed well and they would like to take her on permanently, on a better wage than was first quoted! As the conversation went on, she was told that the company would fund her exams to become an insurance broker, what a bonus! The company she is going to work for was recently rated as one of the top employers in the country, hopefully she is onto a winner there. All I know is that I am extremely proud of her, she will be my sugar momma one day :P

This weekend we are having a celebratory meal, having my parents over on the Saturday and hopefully just having a productive yet relaxing weekend. I hope you have a good one too, dear reader.

The Time Is Now

This title just reminds me of the opening riff from Moloko’s song of the same name (embedded below for your listening pleasure)..

Things have gotten pretty rickety at work and everyone’s tensions are flared. All of it leaves me nonplussed, I couldn’t care less what people feel, think or do. What it does mean though is that I will be on the lookout for a new place of work, one where I will be paid for my level of responsibility. Yesterday, I managed to invoke emotion in my Director due to the fact I was angry that I hadn’t been given a raise after I was made Manager of my current office.

So, it will be all hands to the pump, trudging through job websites and sending out a million copies of my CV. I have a few business ventures lined up so watch out for them, they will be the sweetener in an otherwise boring salary.

There was some good news to report. Myself and Katie are moving to a new house soon and we also bought a new ironing board and iron! Wow, go Team Brian!

Finally, London Zoo rocked, can you tell it was wet?!

Not Long Now

The wedding is fast approaching and it’s all hands to the pump to get it sorted. Invitations have finally landed after some hanging back on the order from the supplier, loads of RSVP’s coming back which bodes well attendance wise!

We have to make payments on the honeymoon, the photographer, the video guy who is doing a DVD of the wedding, the wedding cars, the food and venue. We still haven’t sorted what we will be doing on the wedding night accommodation wise, perhaps staying in a local hotel will be an idea.

Katie has been going great guns in her new job, securing a £6,800,000 contract in her second week (yes that’s million!), meaning she is the golden girl at the moment. Our house expectations have picked up with both of us earning a decent wage now, we are looking to get a three or four bed house instead of a pokey two bed flat we looked at the start of the year.

I can’t wait for the day of the wedding, I’m sure Katie is different but there are no nerves and there certainly won’t be on the day.

Shall I invite freaks and geeks from the internet? No chance! :P

Texperts Application

LogoLast week I was browsing around MoneySavingExpert and came across a company called Texperts. Texperts are a mobile search company who pretty much answer any question you fire at them, you simply text a question to a specified number and they reply in a few minutes with the answer you need!

Anyways, to cut a long story short, they have a quiz on there to see if you are good enough to become a Texpert. They ask you questions on a chosen field and you try to answer them within the time limit. Me being the geek I am, I ended up with around a 90% score, meaning I would be put forward for the chance to make money working in my spare time for Texpert.

I received an email today telling me just that:

Dear Matt

Well done! Less than 2% of people pass our Tex-Factor challenge.

Because you passed the challenge, I would be delighted to be able to
offer to engage your services as a Texpert. Unfortunately, we are
experiencing a 2 month wait for our training programme. However, I
would be grateful if you would let us keep your Successful Application
until the next available slot in a couple of months time (hopefully
less). Please let me know if you are happy for me to get in touch with
you and I will keep your details. If I do not hear from you I will
assume that you are no longer interested or it is not convenient.

In the mean time you also have the privilege of joining an exclusive
Facebook club. Only the elite 2% who pass the Tex-Factor are allowed in
to this group, so join us and be a member with pride!

I hope to hear from you soon.

Texpert

Looking it up, you can make between £6-10 an hour, which would definitely help pay the bills! As it reads above, I have to wait a while but it’s something to gloat about for the next five minutes!
