And……Relax

This weekend Katie treated me to something I had never experienced before………..(and no it wasn’t sexual :P) A relaxation package at a beauty therapist.

Waking up early Saturday morning, I typed in the location into my iPhone, memorised the route and headed for a place appropriately named “Hello Gorgeous”. Upon arriving, the owner kindly let me park in the staff car park as to not incur any parking fines and I was taken into one of the rooms situated just off the reception where my pampering session would commence.

The therapist explained to me what was in store (no, there were no happy endings), and firstly I was to enjoy a manicure which basically meant she would file my nails and give me a hand massage. I had cuticles moved and manipulated, cuticles that I’m sure didn’t exist before that morning and treatments that left my hands so soft I found it difficult to hold the steering wheel on the way home.

The next part consisted of a facial. Lots of lotions and potions were rubbed into my face, leaving my face tingling and smelling slightly of watermelon. I had some sort of sticky solution added and was then mummified so it would soak in and leave me invigorated later. Once this was removed, I was asked to make myself comfortable and lie face down for the final part of my treatment, the massage.

The massage took place for about thirty five minutes and it was so relaxing, I was almost nodding off again after being awake only an hour. I had palms, fingers, elbows pushed in my back and it was delightful, truly relaxing. I lied there wondering what I had done to deserve this luxury, my wife must truly love me!

The massage finished and I was told to meet the therapist in the reception where she gave me a few complimentary lotions and I went on my way, trying to navigate round corners with the softest hands on God’s green earth!

The rest of the weekend saw Katie and I watch Jarhead that evening, me play 3 hours of football and then head to a friends for a BBQ. On Sunday evening we went to the cinema and watched the film: “The Strangers”. The film was very entertaining and exactly what Katie and I had been after, a scary horror film (incidentally you can catch a load of films I have watched recently in my Movie Reviews section).

And that was it, a very quick weekend but entertaining nonetheless.

Bumblebee Takes To The Floor

Look’s like an amateur film but it’s some slick animation!

The second film in the franchise is being made as we speak, can’t wait!

What The Bleep Do We Know

Filmed in Portland, Oregon, What the Bleep Do We Know blends a fictional story line, documentary-style discussion, and computer animation to present a viewpoint of the physical universe and human life within it, with connections to neuroscience and quantum physics. Some ideas discussed in the film are:

  • The universe is best seen as constructed from thought (or ideas) rather than from substance.
  • “Empty space” is not empty.
  • Beliefs about who one is and what is real form oneself and one’s realities.
  • Peptides manufactured in the brain can cause a bodily reaction to an emotion.

I see this as an introduction to the String Theory (everything in the universe is connected), but also attempts to explain how if everything is connected, it can be exploited or altered by our consciousness at any given time. It questions the existence of God, faith and belief using science as it’s basis.

You can watch the film using the players below.

Part One:

Part Two:

It raises questions that made me think about how I can influence my outlook on life. Whilst the quantum physics side sounds plausible, I am still not convinced. I find that if you do concentrate on something happening, I can happen, but not because everything in the world is connected. I take what I deem relevant and discard the rest.

What are your thoughts?

An Easy Weekend

Ryan ReynoldsLast night was a nice and easy night, both myself and Katie ventured out for a bite to eat at Chilli’s, came home watched some films and drank some wine.

It wasn’t intended but it ended up being a Ryan Reynolds themed movie night, as we watched both “Waiting” and “Just Friends”.

[Aside]The thing I find about Ryan Reynolds is that he is a very witty deliverer of lines and comic dialogue but he has fallen into the trap of doing the same sort of rom-com films that typecast him. Much like Denzel Washington always plays a jaded cop, Ryan Reynolds always plays a guy unlucky or unwilling in love but pulls through to find happiness. Reynolds found himself a better role in Blade Trinity, but the film didn’t live up to the earlier instalments of the Blade series. In Smokin’ Aces, he was the central character, his performance showing he could command the screen in an altogether different genre. Recent reports have led us to believe he will play a comic book character in the upcoming X-men spinoff film, I can’t see it really giving him the exposure he truly deserves.[/Aside]

Today I think it will be a TV, Xbox and film day, the week felt much longer work wise and a day off to just chill seems like just what the doctor ordered.

Katie and I have shown ourselves to be the master of the canine psyche, we have been able to subdue Harry the dog to only wake up and come join us when we arise, not at the 3,4,5 and 6am howling he does for Katie’s parents.

A random Saturday morning post, enjoy your weekends.

Cloverfield

Cloverfield

This weekend I went and saw Cloverfield. Arriving a tad late, we shuffled into the theatre and found the whole place packed, the only available seats were four rows from the front…….fantastic.

Anyways, the trailers finished and the movie commenced, the start of the film taking time to build up familiarity with it’s characters and back story. This was all filmed from a first person perspective, the best friend of the film’s lead. It’s all very docile until the monster hits New York, suddenly buildings start falling, there are explosions on every street corner and there are a whole load of people running in any direction possible.

I don’t want to ruin the film so I won’t go into much detail other than to say you should see this film. Make sure you are situated far away from the screen and you have taken your motion sickness pills as the camerawork is not steady!

Don’t believe rumours there are secret clips at the end of the credits, I stayed and was sorely disappointed!

Films I Want…No Need, To See…

There were the summer blockbusters like Die Hard 4.0 and Blockbusters…I came, I saw and I watched in awe. Our American counterparts have release dates well before our own but here are a list of films I want to see either in the next two weeks or the whole of 2008..

1. I am Legend

Starring Will Smith, “I am Legend” is a film centring on “the last man on earth”. The trailer depicts Smith in a desolate New York City with only his dog for company. Problem is, is he really alone?

It smashed records in the US and with a Boxing Day release in the UK, I can see it doing the same here. Is it me or is Will Smith actually a really nice guy (judging from interviews etc)?
