I understand your point nabiy and perhaps in my case it is a permitted ignorance. I am under the impression that most of my traffic is logged and categorised by my ISP, so why worry about someone reading my mail?

Google may choose to use the information, they arent going to have my full credit card number, plans of a bomb plot or a transcript of a conversation with a 13 year old....so I dont worry.

My view of events isnt shaped by Google, I am not politicly motivated and I dont have a somewhat biased view on many things so I am not being moulded to what Google deem to be relevant.

In my view, you fuck, eat, pay taxes and die. Why worry about Google? :)

@data: hope the exams went well.

m4tt, privacy isn't important because you might have something to hide it is important in it's own right. This is why people have concerns with google.

that being said, google is not a government and does not forcibly or covertly collect data on the public. everyone who uses google is using it of their own will and has agreed to it's terms and conditions. so I don't really see a problem with it as far as privacy is concerned. My personal concern with google is more a concern of common perception. anytime a company has control of information there exists a real temptation to alter that information in a favourable light. Does google do this with their search engine? i don't know but the temptation would be very difficult to resist. ask yourself, how much of your perception of the world is based on google (google news, google search, google books). anyways, maybe i'm just an alarmist ; )
