Gears of War 2 Ending

Much to the dismay of my wife, I have been playing Gears of War 2 quite full on for the past week. Last night I finished the campaign mode on Hardcore difficulty, signalling the popup of a number of achievements and also the ending credits. Not being able to skip these credits, I left them on and set about tidying the house.

As I came back to them, the Microsoft copyrights ran through the screen and a Gears of War 2 loading screen came on. What happened there was something you would have expected from the end of a Cloverfield type movie.

A man’s voice kicks in (I won’t divulge as to ruin the ending for people playing it), tells us that the grand plan was a huge mistake. I’m left thinking, “I just spent countless hours sinking Jacinto, how is that a huge mistake?!“. What is does signal is that we are in for a third Gears of War instalment (I can hear the collective sighs of the Xbox widows around the world).

Interested on what other people thought of the ending, I searched Twitter for the phrase: “Gears of War 2 Ending”. Here are the results:

As you can see, for some it’s a stroke of genius, for others it’s a similar feeling of: “Is this Halo 2 all over again?!

For those of you who don’t know what the hell I am talking about, I have embedded the ending below, so if you don’t want to spoil it for yourself, this is a massive SPOILER ALERT!

Have you finished the game? What are your thoughts on the ending? Have you got an idea of what the (insinuated) third instalment will deliver? Hit me up in the comments.

Well, t was well known (to most people, maybe not you lol) that Gears of War was going to be a trilogy. This was said when the 1st one became a hit way back. That little nugget of info aside, it is true, it is similar to HALO2 but screw it, the game was incredebly enjoyable, and the whole "story element" thing was better this time around. the writting was much better and hell, I AM DAMN CURIOUS AS TO KNOW WTF does Marcus' dad have to do wth the Queen and also, what about that science lab we went through.....what was that all about?!?!?! now, it is obvious the Locusts have been on the planet for a whle......but...were they created by humans?! who s the locust queen? why was she human!?? (play it again and you'll see it is an elaborate suit she has... think she looked freakier on the 1st game. but she looks fully human here.... idon't know.... I loved the darn thing. All in all i am glad you are excited as so am I!

    congrats on beating it!

The gears of war series are really short in storylength. Think about it. The first game spans over a couple of days and this one aswell. Then at the beginning of this game, they say 6 months since the last game! We are missing out on huge events in between that time period in my opinion. Anyone else agree?

The problem was the lead up to the end was very good for a campaign mode, it just smacked of Halo 2 where it's thrown in and not really thought about.
  • I think at that point I would have been upset at how much time and energy I had wasted and not even think about buying the next game!
  • I have but I wasn't a massive fan. Why do you ask?
  • Have you ever played Socom before?
