Bruised Ribs

Argh, what a pain! (Literally).

I played football on Sunday, and right at the start of the match I collided with the goalkeeper, who’s knee stuck me plum in the ribcage directly where my heart was. Whilst my heart is fine, my movement and my breathing has become somewhat painful. Leaving two days rest, I stupidly went to football training last night and aggravated my injury, causing me to rest for a short period.

Today I feel a little better, I have done some internet research and deducted it could take upto 4 weeks to heal…..I have until Sunday!

Here is what I found:

How do you treat bruised ribs? The only way for bruised ribs to heal is with time. You can minimize the pain by taking an over the counter pain reliever. You can ice the affected area to minimize swelling if needed.

Bruised ribs and a costochondral separation usually take 3 to 4 weeks to heal. Broken ribs take 6 to 8 weeks to heal.

So there you have it, lets hope it’s not too bad eh? :)

edit: Although most doctors and parents will never give advise this, I recommend taking two Ibruprofen and two Paracetamol to help with the pain and the healing process. The Ibruprofen works as an anti-inflamatory and the Paracetamol works to help neutralise the pain. I did this before playing football and it helped immensely.

edit2: I have noticed that MSN and Google search queries have brought you to this blog. When it comes to rib injuries, it is always best to see your local doctor and get them looked at by a professional. After two weeks healing time, my ribs no longer hurt and there is only a minor discomfort when sneezing.

Have you found better ways to treat yourself? If so leave a message!

  • It’s BBQ time…

Phew, what a day. It started off with an early morning hangover, I raised myself and opened the windows, DAMN it was hot in there.

Apon waking, I had to go back into town to pickup my car from the night before. I had ventured to the pub, drank lots and lots and lots of Magners Cider and ended up in the fine establishment we call “The Brush“. Once I had recovered my wheels, the day was ahead of me, all I needed to do is decide what I wanted to do with it.

I phoned my compadre Luke and invited him over, possibly for some BBQ offerings, all I needed was the meat. As he ventured over, he contacted another amigo; Ryan and suddenly things were looking up.

I prepped the BBQ, opened the house to the world and waited for the triumphant heroes to arrive. They promptly arrived, boasting an impressive array of meats and alcoholic beverages. Each meat type was imaculately prepared by myself. We feasted on burgers, spicy chicken, ribs and other various titbits until bellies were full to bursting.

Then came the retro gaming, we cracked open the N64 and loaded up Goldeneye (possibly the greatest FPS ever). Being a Halo convert, it took time to revert back to the N64 joypad but once that boundary was broken, the streets ran red with blood………..most of it mine ;) Mario Kart 64, Pokemon Stadium (Run Rattata Run!) followed.

The gaming wasnt enough for us though, we were swiftly joined by Cheg who brought the tally to 4. We ventured into the midday heat and played some football, this lasted until Cheg decided to throw the ball at Luke and destroy my mums rose bush.

This however was a blessing in disguise. Jumping in the car, we drove down to the local park and played yet more football. This moved onto the 5 a side pitch which resulted in a 2 on 2 game. Myself and Cheg won 7-1, Luke playing in bare feet. To finish we played 21’s, what a game. I managed to clinch the first game with a flourish towards the end after some stiff competition from Luke. The second however wasnt so fun, a first to 11 match saw me run in last with Ryan winning followed closely by Luke and Cheg. We returned home and went our separate ways.

What a day, this is what life is supposed to be like…….oh and I have Star Wars Episode III now as Luke left it behind :)

  • I go to the gym three times a week, I work out as hard as I physically can. There is a dude down there who is physically massive, he has calves the size of my thighs and attends competitions for bodybuilding every month.

Well, he died today. He was in the Sauna at the gym and collapsed with a heart attack. Turns out he was 52, when he only looked 30-odd.

You can do no exercise and live 80 years or goto the gym and die at 50…….if it’s your time, it’s your time.

  • World Cup 2006

I watched the game at a mates house tonight, the best way to watch footy….with your mates.

Anyways, I had placed three bets, one for the Germany match, one for the Trinidad and Tobago match and one for the England match. I had staked £2 on each one and had to get the first scorer and the result right.

As the day passed, I saw my first two bets goto waste. The England match came on, England go 1-0 up with a nice goal from Joe Cole, I think in the back of my mind that I could be in with a result if the result goes onto be 2-1 to England. Sweden quickly equalise and I hope that England score one more because a) I want them to win and b) if the result stays as it is, I win £100.

Seven minutes from time, Steven Gerrard comes on and scores……”could this be it?” I ask.

30 seconds from the end of the match, what do you know?

    F**cker

    Course not…….match ends 2-2.

I suppose England dont have to play Germany now, but still!
