"This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. " - Morpheus - The Matrix

Video Sharing

Posted by Matt under Blogging, Videos

Vimeo LogoYoutube…..it’s everywhere and nowhere.

Vimeo however is what I am talking about. It has a unique design, it has great typography and in my opinion, the player is a lot nicer to look at. I am soon to be an owner of a camcorder and I am intent on using it. I shall be using this great site to upload my video’s, embed on this very site and enjoy.

Put simply:

Vimeo has been around since the last days of 2004.

We currently have over 7 billion users who have uploaded over 950 trillion videos.

I’m not going to make this another call to action (like the Mixx post) but I have felt the need to overhaul the services I have been using so that instead of using one that everyone else uses, I am using one that suits my needs and does it flawlessly. Mixx and Vimeo are examples of this!

Headed to Mixx

Posted by Matt under Tech

Mixx LogoI used to be a very frequent user of Digg, I would check it for tech news, articles and it’s pictures section.

The content on Digg has always been quite diverse until recently. The current tech meme’s are the Nintendo (DS or Wii), Google (Apps, Gmail) and Apple (Macbook and iPhone) and are now the tops stories on Digg’s main page. Even though the content had become predictable, it was still a good place to get your fill of internet news.

Unimpressed by Reddit and Delicious, I have headed to Mixx; a Digg clone with what seems to be more of a democratic community.

Digg’s downfalls are that it seems to be:

  • Full of 13 year old kids trying to mount their soapbox
  • Paid promoters who game the system
  • Very US centric (that can’t be helped but I have no influence over a writers strike)
  • Ready to sell it’s users to the highest bidder

Have a look at Mixx, the community is a patch on Digg but it is slowly growing. Mixx users are rewarded “Karma” for their posts and are also given awards for their work towards the community. I shall be submitting and posting there, hopefully see you about!

Films I Want…No Need, To See…

Posted by Matt under Film

There were the summer blockbusters like Die Hard 4.0 and Blockbusters…I came, I saw and I watched in awe. Our American counterparts have release dates well before our own but here are a list of films I want to see either in the next two weeks or the whole of 2008..

1. I am Legend

Starring Will Smith, “I am Legend” is a film centring on “the last man on earth”. The trailer depicts Smith in a desolate New York City with only his dog for company. Problem is, is he really alone?

It smashed records in the US and with a Boxing Day release in the UK, I can see it doing the same here. Is it me or is Will Smith actually a really nice guy (judging from interviews etc)?

5 Days ’til Christmas

Posted by Matt under General

M&S Food…and how Christmassy do you feel?! Yeah me too.

Not even the big companies have been that festive this year, the only real Christmas adverts I can think of really relate to the supermarkets. The M&S adverts and how tasty my ‘Garden Grown Sweet Chilli Moist Plump Turkey with Ooddles of Cranberry Sauce and a Delicious Bass Filling’ are beginnning to grate, especially now Aldi, Lidl, PG Tips have also jumped on the marketing cash cow.

Don’t even get me started on Radio 1 censoring The Pogues’ Fairytale in New York.

As posted before, I have finalised all my presents and have now been wrapped. I swing towards the ‘It’s only going to be ripped open again’ way of thinking when it comes to wrapping so anyone who reads this blog and receives a gift from me, I apologise in advance.

The finer points of Christmas will be wrapping up warm with Katie and my family, you can’t beat that feeling of being content and sheltered from that icy frost outside. This will also be my last Christmas in someone else’s home, next year Katie and I will have it all to ourselves :)
